Journey

New Year New Adventures

Happy New Year!  I hope you've had safe and happy holidays and are looking forward to a new year as much as I am. 2011 was overall a good year, but I'm planning to make 2012 a great year.

In 2011... we moved into our new home, we adopted Charlie cat, we did a LOT of small home projects, I became addicted to buying furniture to refinish, we planted our first veggie garden, went thrifting in NYC and a whole lot more.  I also realized I got so focused on the minutia of the house and house projects that I let a lot of things fall to the wayside, including a social life.

So, although 2011 ended on a positive note, 2012 is going to be utterly stellar if I have anything to do about it.

In 2012 I plan to,

  • Blog more and blog better
  • Stop collecting projects and start completing projects
  • Enjoy the company of my wonderful friends more
  • Travel more
  • Enjoy more

2012 is already promising to be a busy but exciting year.  I'm currently planning a bridal shower & bachelorette for a friend, a baby shower for my sister, designing my future nephew's nursery (including refinishing a few pieces of furniture), helping a friend plan her wedding- and this is all within the first 4 months of the year.

2012 is going to be an amazing adventure, I hope you join me!

This is day 366.

1 year ago today, I started this blog.

I can't believe how much I've grown in that timespan!  Let's reflect.

Well first of all there's the major life changes.  In the past year, we've bought a house and gotten a second cat, to name a few.  (Yes I include a second fur-baby as a major life change).  But those aren't why I started this blog.

I started this blog to help me figure out what I want out of my life and guess what!  It's helping!  I still don't have the answers to the universe (shockingly), however I'm happier in my career than I have been in a long time (partially because I'm getting to do a lot of work for any corporate designer's DREAM client *coughgooglecough*).  And although I haven't figured out long term life plans, I have ideas and more importantly inspiration.

Inspiration.  That was my biggest issue before this blog.  I had lost my inspiration and became jaded with design @26.  Thankfully, through this blog, I opened my eyes to the wonderful world of social media's connection to design and got INSPIRED.  I am now severely addicted to reading design-related blogs, pinterest, and following design topics on Twitter.  Design excites me again!

So a BIG Thank You to those of you who keep coming back here to read my latest rants or see my latest projects, and Thank You to all the design bloggers and tweeters who have inspired me.

I CANNOT wait to see what the next year brings!

Purpose

I had a busy weekend spending quality time with my taxes, house, and good friends. I went to a rummage sale at a local church and found a fantastic oversized frame for just $4!  I forgot to take a picture of it before I scrambled out the door for the 9to5 this morning (oops), but be assured that once cleaned up and painted, it's going to be phenomenal!   I currently have it on the floor, leaning against the wall.  It has no back, just frame and glass- a little odd.  I think the cats are confused by it.  I've come into the room multiple times since its purchase Saturday AM to find miss Daisy sitting in front of it, looking into it.  Curious.  Maybe she sees something in it I don't ;).

Yesterday was spent enjoying musical theater.  After having all the songs memorized for over a year, I finally saw a travelling production of Avenue Q.  Such a good time!!!  If you aren't familiar with the show- think Sesame Street for adults.  Just check out the list of songs and you'll see what I mean.  Hilarious!  I have a feeling the Bad Idea Bears will be a running joke with our friends from now on.

Since the reason I started this blog was to find my 'purpose,'  I thought I would honor that in the form of song.  Please enjoy Avenue Q's "Purpose."

I can honestly say, my explorations from this blog have opened my eyes to new things and I've been able to re-bond with design.  Twitter and exploring other design blogs have kept me excited about the world of design and DIY projects, and my new house has given me a blank canvas to explore all these new-found ideas.  I can't wait to see where it leads me next!
